SABANA: Journal of Dryland Agriculture & Innovation (JDAI) is an open-access, peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to publishing high-quality, innovative, and impactful research addressing the challenges and opportunities of dryland ecosystems. The journal focuses on the development of sustainable agricultural practices, climate resilience, and scientific and technological innovations in dryland, semi-arid, savanna, and drought-prone regions.

SABANA welcomes research that contributes to improving the productivity, quality, efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability of dryland agriculture through the application of science, technology, and innovation. The journal particularly encourages research on the development of agricultural commodities in semi-arid regions, the utilization of biological resources, innovations in crop production and postharvest technologies, and sustainable dryland agricultural management.

Published research is expected to contribute to food and economic security, community well-being, and regional development, including border areas and regions of strategic national importance.

Scope

SABANA: Journal of Dryland Agriculture & Innovation welcomes scholarly works related to dryland agriculture, with particular attention to the following six key areas:

1. Plant Science & Climate Resilience

Research on drought-tolerant crops, plant breeding, plant physiology, crop productivity, and adaptation strategies to maintain agricultural productivity under changing climatic conditions.

2. Soil, Water & Land Management

Research covering soil fertility management, soil and water conservation, water-use efficiency, irrigation innovations, agroforestry systems, rehabilitation and restoration of degraded land, and sustainable land resource management.

3. Livestock & Integrated Farming Systems

Research on crop-livestock integration, alternative feed resources, livestock management in dryland environments, and strategies to improve livestock productivity and resilience under prolonged dry seasons and resource limitations.

4. Agricultural Technology & Innovation

Research involving precision agriculture, the Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, drones, artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, agricultural digitalization, crop production and postharvest technologies, and appropriate technologies that are adaptive, affordable, and accessible to smallholder farmers in dryland regions.

5. Socio-Economics & Community Empowerment

Research addressing food security, agribusiness and value chains, agricultural entrepreneurship, agricultural economics, local and indigenous knowledge, community empowerment, gender equality, and policies and institutions that support the welfare of farmers and communities in dryland regions.

6. Climate Change Adaptation & Sustainability

Research on climate change mitigation and adaptation, drought risk management, early warning systems, agricultural resilience, natural resource conservation, and the contribution of dryland agriculture to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
